Auston Matthews Out for Game 6 vs Bruins: Maple Leafs Update

The Toronto Maple Leafs will face Game 6 against the Boston Bruins without their leading goal-scorer, Auston Matthews, who has been ruled out due to an injury sustained in Game 4, as they aim to build on their Game 5 overtime victory and extend the series.

Getty Images is at it again, capturing the highs and lows of sports moments. And right now, it’s all eyes on the Toronto Maple Leafs. They’re in a tight spot, facing elimination for the second game in a row. And they’ll have to do it without Auston Matthews. That’s right, no Matthews for Game 6 against the Boston Bruins.

Sheldon Keefe, the head coach, dropped the news Thursday morning. Matthews, who topped the NHL’s goal-scoring chart this season, hasn’t been seen in action since halfway through Game 4. He did hit the ice before Thursday’s morning skate, but only briefly. Before you knew it, he was out, not sticking around for the team drills.

Post-skate, Keefe had a chat with the press. He confirmed, according to Sportsnet, Matthews is officially sitting out for Thursday night’s Game 6. Talk about a blow for the Maple Leafs. Yet, they’ve been here before. Just last game, they managed to keep their dreams alive, pulling off a 2-1 overtime victory in Boston, no less. That win forced a Game 6 back at Scotiabank Arena.

Joseph Woll, in his series debut, was nothing short of a wall. The goalie blocked 27 shots, some of which were downright crucial in overtime. And then there’s Matthew Knies. 2:26 into overtime, he finds the back of the net, keeping the Maple Leafs’ hopes alive. What a moment!

But here’s the thing. If the Maple Leafs are dreaming of a Game 7, they’ll need everyone stepping up, Knies included. It’s all hands on deck to give Matthews a shot at a comeback.
