Blackhawks Promote Top Prospect from AHL Rockford

Lukas Reichel has been recalled to the Chicago Blackhawks from AHL Rockford in hopes of replicating his post-deadline success from last season, despite struggling earlier this season and being a healthy scratch in a recent game against Los Angeles.

Lukas Reichel is crucial to Chicago’s rebuild. It was inevitable he’d get another shot with the Blackhawks. And now, that time has arrived. According to CapFriendly, the winger has been called up from AHL Rockford. Yet, he found himself on the bench Friday night, not playing against Los Angeles.

Expectations for the 21-year-old were sky-high at the season’s start. Last season, he impressed in Chicago with seven goals and eight assists in just 23 games. The Blackhawks had several slots open, and the hope was Reichel would secure a top-six spot.

But, things didn’t go as planned. Reichel found himself struggling, shuffled around in the lineup and even tried out at center. After 50 games, his tally stood at just three goals and seven assists. This led to a decision last month to send him down for a reset.

While with the IceHogs, Reichel didn’t exactly set the ice on fire. But he did manage some success, scoring a goal and six assists in nine games. Last year, a post-deadline recall was when he truly shone. The Blackhawks are hoping for a repeat of that success.

With Reichel’s contract up for renewal this summer, he’s got a lot riding on his performance. He’s aiming for a strong finish to bolster his position in offseason contract talks.
