Jamie Benn landed a massive punch that sent Mark Scheifele crashing to the ice during Thursday’s heated matchup between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets.
The incident happened late in the third period with the Jets cruising to what looked like a comfortable 3-0 win.
Things got ugly near the team benches when a scuffle broke out. Even with a referee trying to keep players separated, Benn managed to throw a devastating left hook that caught Scheifele completely off guard.
The punch sent both Scheifele and an unfortunate linesman tumbling to the ice, as the Jets forward had been in the official’s grasp when Benn connected.
It was the kind of punch you don’t usually see in today’s NHL – a clean shot that dropped a player instantly.
The incident added another chapter to the growing rivalry between these Central Division teams, who could very well meet in the playoffs this spring.
