Tristan Jarry’s situation with the Penguins has taken another twist. Just days after being sent home to work on his skills, the team announced he’s now heading to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for a conditioning stint. This season started rough for him, letting in 12 goals from 73 shots in just three games, while Joel Blomqvist got some early playtime.
With Alex Nedeljkovic back in action, the Penguins have been juggling three goalies on their roster. Sending Jarry to the minors doesn’t change this since players on a conditioning loan still count towards the active roster limit of 23. So, Pittsburgh won’t save any money from this move.
Jarry can stay in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for up to 14 days and could play in five games during that time. If he stays there long enough, he’ll get a few chances to improve his game and maybe turn things around. Fans might wonder if this will help or if it’s just delaying bigger decisions.
What’s Next for Jarry?
Considering Jarry’s contract runs through 2027-28 with a hefty $5.375 million cap hit, trading him seems unlikely right now. If he doesn’t perform well in the minors or if Blomqvist and Nedeljkovic keep doing great, Pittsburgh might extend his stay or even put him on waivers soon—though it’s doubtful anyone would claim him.
This isn’t what GM Kyle Dubas planned when signing Jarry last offseason but sending him down is probably best for both sides at this point.
