Rangers All-Star Defenseman Set to Return Against Red Wings

Adam Fox, a key defenseman for the New York Rangers, returned to full practice after being placed on long-term injured reserve due to a knee-on-knee collision, indicating he may soon return to play, potentially boosting the team’s performance.

‣ Adam Fox, a key player for the New York Rangers, returned to practice as a full participant, suggesting his return from injury could be imminent. He was placed on long-term injured reserve on Nov. 3 after a knee-on-knee collision.
‣ Fox is considered one of the best young defensemen in the game, with 11 points in 10 games prior to his injury. Despite his absence, the Rangers have performed well, going 7-1-1 in nine games since Fox was put on LTIR.
‣ Although Fox won’t be available for the Rangers’ game against Buffalo, he could return for games against Detroit, Nashville, and San Jose this week. The Rangers are currently tied with the Boston Bruins for first in the Eastern Conference with 31 points.

Adam Fox is back on the ice. He joined the New York Rangers for practice on Monday, a full participant. This suggests his return from injury might be just around the corner.

Fox, a 25-year-old dynamo, landed on long-term injured reserve on Nov. 3. He had a nasty knee-on-knee collision with Carolina’s Sebastian Aho. But now, he could be back in action as early as Wednesday against Detroit. If so, it’s a big win for the Rangers’ defense.

Fox isn’t just any player. He’s considered one of the best young defensemen in the game. Before his injury, he’d racked up 11 points in 10 games. He’s a two-time Norris Trophy finalist, and last season he scored 72 points for the Rangers. But Erik Karlsson’s stellar season meant the trophy went to San Jose.

In the 2020-21 season, Fox led all defensemen with 42 assists. He then posted a career-high 74 points in 2021-22. But despite Fox’s absence – and some missed games from goalie Igor Shesterkin – the Rangers have held their ground. They’ve gone 7-1-1 in the nine games since Fox hit the LTIR. That’s just one game behind Winnipeg and St. Louis.

The Rangers have had some help, of course. Veteran Jonathan Quick has been solid in goal. Erik Gustafsson has stepped up, producing 10 points as the team’s top offensive defenseman. Up front, Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, and Chris Kreider have been leading the charge.

Fox won’t be playing in the Rangers’ 7:00 PM game against Buffalo on Monday. But he could still see action in three games this week, against Detroit, Nashville, and San Jose. Currently, the Rangers are tied with the Boston Bruins for first in the Eastern Conference with 31 points. They’re also on a roll, boasting the Metropolitan Division’s best streak with three consecutive wins.
