The New York Rangers are having a rough start this season, which is surprising for a team that won the President’s Trophy last year.
Rumors are swirling about possible changes, as GM Chris Drury has let other teams know that they’re open to trading players like Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider. Kreider wasn’t in the lineup during their 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Monday, sparking more speculation. But he explained it was due to back spasms, saying, “Back locked up on me,” and mentioned past issues with his lumbar and thorax areas. Coach Peter Laviolette confirmed Kreider will miss Wednesday’s game against the Hurricanes.
Despite being with the Rangers since 2009, trade talks about Kreider continue because he’s scored just nine goals in 19 games this season. He admits there’s tension in the team but thinks they can use it positively: “We’re getting exposed right now… This could just be part of the story.” Fans might feel hopeful that these struggles will make them stronger later.
Rangers’ Current Standings:
Right now, the Rangers have a record of 12-7-1 and sit fourth in their division after losing three games straight. They’re seven points behind first-place New Jersey Devils but still hold onto a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
What do you think? Can they turn things around?
