With only a week left before training camps start, James van Riemsdyk is expected to try out for a team to get a contract for 2024-25, according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic and TSN.
Though he wasn’t in the Top 50 Unrestricted Free Agents this offseason, he’s still one of the best players without a deal. Last season, he led all unsigned UFAs with 0.54 points per game, scoring 11 goals and getting 38 points in 71 games as a Bruin.
He played an average of just 13:30 per game. Expecting him to keep up that production in a middle-six role seems reasonable. His shooting percentage was 7.7% last year, which is over four points below his career average. This should balance out any decline due to age .
Interest from Multiple Teams:
Several teams are interested in van Riemsdyk but want to see how he performs in camp before offering him a solid contract. Entering his 16th NHL season, he’s scored 311 goals and made 318 assists totaling 629 points over 1,011 games with the Bruins, Flyers, and Maple Leafs.
Fans might think it’s exciting to see how JVR does during camp tryouts.
He’s hit the milestone of scoring at least 20 goals seven times during his career but has done it only once since 2020. Despite being older now, he’s stayed pretty healthy—missing just 11 games last season and playing all games three years ago with Philadelphia.
What do you think about JVR’s chances?
