Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are close to finalizing a new contract, according to Rob Rossi from The Athletic. Crosby has one year left on his current deal.
Both Crosby and the team expect the extension soon, but every day without an announcement fuels rumors about free agency or a trade. However, sources say these scenarios were never considered.
Crosby will turn 37 next month. Last winter, there were trade rumors when the Penguins missed the playoffs for a second straight season. Although many dismissed these rumors, some still wondered if Crosby had second thoughts because Kyle Dubas is making big changes this summer .
Contract Details:
Rossi mentioned that Crosby might sign a three-year deal worth around $10M per year. This would let him play with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang until they all retire as Penguins. Fans might think it’s great to see them finish their careers together.
Back in October 2023, Wes Crosby of NHL’s website noted that these three became the longest-tenured trio in North American pro sports history. Some people believe it’s time for the Penguins to rebuild since their championship window seems closed. They could be right, but Crosby deserves to decide how he ends his career with Pittsburgh.
What do you think? Should they rebuild now or stick with their stars?
